Description

This is athree-session spelling seed for the book The Last Wildby Piers Torday. Below is the coverage from Appendix 1 of the National Curriculum 2014. Author's Writing Style: 5 STARS. Yay: It is well-written. It is easy to read narrated in first person perspective in present tenses. It is ideally written for kids and kids at heart like me.

I am very proud to still be a Trustee of the Pleasance Theatre, which gave me my first ever job, and every year gives hundreds of new writers, performers, producers and technicians their first break. You may have seen thesse elements before -- but not like this. First-time author Piers Torday is the son of Paul Torday, whose first novel -- at 60 -- was Salmon Fishing in the Yemen. There's a certain family resemblance, most notably in the irrepressibly oddball sensibility that gathers wildly disparate elements that shouldn't work together at all, including a hefty dose of venerable tropes -- dystopian futures, prison-like boarding schools, hero's journeys, technologically enhanced villains, and lovable animals -- and deftly blends them into a fresh, irresistible new story. Alternately sweet, terrifying, and hysterically funny, the story presents distinctive, appealing characters, human and otherwise, facing a fast-paced onslaught of deadly perils. The Last Wild is a middle-grade dystopian novel. It might be a little bit too sad and gloomy for children but I really liked it. It is set in a world where a virus is spreading. But it only affects animals. It is a story of a young boy Kester who realises one day that he can speak to animals and he decides to help them. This book is part good part bad because it has a slow beginning but if you get into it it's a good book because of the story and very well thought out characters. Kester Jaynes is a little kid that can't talk to people. It is set in the future where there is a virus that has wiped out most of the animals but it turns out he can talk to them.

This should have led to a promising career in canine detective fiction but at school and university I became completely distracted by theatre & comedy, which is where I then started my working life - at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, producing plays and sketch shows, and occasionally writing them too. Thus starts Kester’s journey to rescue the last animals left alive. Kester has a gift: the ability to talk and listen to animals. Carried by pigeons to The Last Wild, he reluctantly agrees to help the last remaining animals find a cure for red-eye. Along the way, he learns a lot about himself, friendship, humans, and animals. Kester lives in a land in quarantine. A deadly virus has killed all the animals except pests and it's expected to be equally dangerous to humans. But when Kester realises he can talk to the pests, he finds they have great hope invested in him.
